1) ~/Library/Application Support/Freeway 4/Actions/
The “~” symbol means the name of your “home” folder, normally the same as your username.
2) /Library/Application Support/Freeway 4/Actions/
And place them in one of the locations listed below:
1) ~/Library/Application Support/Freeway 5/Actions/
Copy Actions here if you want the Actions to be used only by the current user on your machine.

field and click "Go".
Installation and Startup Problems
If you are having problems installing Freeway then make sure you have the following:
- The correct Operating System requirements for the version of Freeway you are using (OS X 10.4 or above for Freeway 5).
- The latest update of the version of Freeway you are using (see Updates).
- The necessary permissions needed to install applications in your Applications folder.
- Dragged the Freeway application folder into your Applications folder or somewhere inside your Home folder.
- No corrupt fonts on your machine (see www.softpress.com/kb/article.php?id=755).
If you are still having problems installing Freeway, contact the Softpress support team.
Adding Custom HTML Markup to your site
There may be times when you need to insert code manually into your site. In Freeway there are several ways to do this:
Before/after a specific HTML Tag
Choose HTML Markup from the Page menu and then select the appropriate option from the pop-up list and enter the code. Click OK when done.
In the body of the page
Open the Insert, select Markup Item and enter the code into the dialog that appears. After clicking OK, position the item on the page. If you want this to appear inside a HTML item cut and paste the markup item into the item.
To edit the markup double click on the markup item.
Adding attributes to item tags
Several item tags can have small snippets of code (attributes) added to them. To do this, select the item you want to extend and choose Extended from the Item menu. Enter the Name and Value of the attribute in the dialog that appears.
The option for extending table tag can be found in the Inspector palette.
Other Extended options can be found in other dialogs, such as in the Hyperlink and Form Setup dialogs.
Creating a Link to PDFs and Other External Files
You can easily link to PDFs and other external files using Freeway. You will need to use either the Acrobat or Download File Actions. These can either be inserted as HTML text links or graphics.
Creating a text link
- Create an HTML item and add your content.
- Select the word or text that you want to link to the PDF or external file.
- Open the Insert > Action Item menu and select Acrobat or Download File. An Action Item labeled accordingly will be placed in the line of text.
- Command click on the item to select it.
- Open the Actions palette, by selecting it from the Window menu or from the toolbar.
- Use the File option in the Actions palette to select the file you want to link to and the Name field to specify the link text (this should be the same as the text that was selected originally). The Acrobat Action has an extra setting for specifying the target of the PDF.
Creating a graphic link
- Create a graphic item.
- Open the Actions palette, by selecting it from the Window menu or from the toolbar.
- Click on the plus button in the Actions palette and choose the Acrobat Icon or Download Icon Action from the list of Actions.
- Command click on the item to select it.
- Open the Actions palette, by selecting it from the Window menu or from the toolbar.
- Use the File option in the Actions palette to select the file you want to link to. The Acrobat Action has an extra setting for specifying the target of the PDF.
When you preview or upload your site Freeway will place the files in your Site Folder and upload them automatically.
Note: You may need to upload the site to test the links - in some cases they will open your Resources folder in the Finder when viewed locally (on your machine). This will not happen when viewed remotely (online).
Creating an HTML Email
You will need at least OS X 10.4 or above and Apple Mail which has been setup correctly to send emails to complete this.
- Create your HTML email in Freeway.
- Once designed, upload the site to your web space. This step is essential otherwise the images in the email won't be accessed by the recipient.
- When the upload is complete, open Safari and browse to the uploaded page. This will be something like http://www.yourdomain.com/email.html, replacing yourdomain with your domain name and email.html with the filename of the page you just created. When the page has finished loading press Command i, or go to File>Mail Contents of This Page.
- The page will then be opened in a new Mail message window. You can then send the email as normal.
Note: Links to other pages will open in a new default browser window, not a new Mail window.
What details do I need to enter in the FTP Upload Dialog?
When you are ready to upload your web site to your server, you need to enter the FTP connection details in the Freeway Uoload dialog. Your webhost should have provided you with all the relevant information needed to upload.
What to enter:
- Server - this is the address of the FTP server where you will upload your site to. An example of this looks like ftp.domainname.com, or in an IP format, 123.456.789.0
- Directory - You may need to upload your pages into a specific directory on your web server. Your webhost can advise.
- Username - The username given by the host
- Password - The password given by the host
Should the Username or Password field be left blank prior to upload you will be prompted to enter them again after.
- Passive FTP (PASV) - Some hosts require that this option is used. Leave it unchecked if you are unsure and check it if you get Network Errors on upload.
- Save FTP Log - This option will create a record of the upload. You don't need this checked to have a successful upload, but should you have problems we may ask you to check it and send the record to us.
Why can’t I see my site after I upload it?
Most hosts will require the homepage of your site to have the filename index.html, index.htm or index.php.
If you are using Freeway 5 the first page in your site will automatically have this but in Freeway 4 or below you will need to:
- Select the page.
- Set the File field to index.html in the Inspector palette.
- The Title field can contain anything you like. This is just the text that will appear at the top of the browser window when the page is viewed.
