Layer Positioning Information

This great action allows you to set the initial position on layer items and then move them 'out of the way' whilst retaining their initial window position when publishing the file.

This action has other options too which are outlined below.

The action is very simple to use. You apply it to a layered item and you are presented with the following interface in the actions menu:

When you first apply the action, the current coordinates are entered automatically. If you want to alter the position of the item's placement, follow these steps:

1. Move the layer to the position that you want

2. Uncheck 'Lock Coordinates' so the coordinates of the layer can be set.

3. Click the 'Get Coordinates' Button - this will capture the coordinates of the current position.

4. Move the Item to a position where you can more easily work with it.

Other available options:

Position with these coordinates use this to switch off the use of the coordinates in the Action palette and use those in the Inspector Palette instead.

Compensate for Page centring if your page is set to centre, layers will not be affected. Use this option on any layers that you want to be affected by page centring.

Maintain layer Position in Window if you want to have a non-scrolling item, use this option. When the page is scrolled, the layer will return to it's position relative to the windows top-left corner (this works with the Centring option on too).

Position at bottom of Window positions the layer the specified number of pixels from the bottom of the window. The X coordinate of the item is unaffected by this.

When combined with the Background Layer Action, you can create fully centred, HTML 4.0 layered sites.

Note: Internet Explorer can sometimes leave artefacts on the page where the item has been repositioned.
