Auto Link Information

This action is designed to help you when you need to make a large number of links within a block of HTML text, where the text is actually a URL. For example if you wanted to have a list of, say 100 links it can be tricky to have to bring up the hyperlinks dialogue each time. Auto Link allows you to delimit you to speed this up so your text.

So you type in:

  • The Softpress web site is located at [www.softpress.com]
  • The support section is at [www.softpress.com/support]
  • But if you want action go to [www.softpress.com/actions]

And You Get

Which will save you time if you have a lot of them.

To use the Auto Link Action you apply the action to an HTML box.

Delimiters - These characters determine what the action will use as a link when making it's page. Buy default they are "[" and "]". So anything that is between these two delimiters will be considered to be a link. You need not have a single character as a delimiter - you can have more than one if you want. You should choose characters that will not cause non links to be output as links.

URL Prefix - This is the prefix that is appended on the front of all the links to make then links in the output. It is by default http://. You will probably not have to change this.

Delete Delimiters - This checkbox, if selected, will delete the delimiters before output. generally you want your links to be of the form www.softpress.com and not
[www.softpress.com]

And that is it. One word of advice - when choosing delimiters do not choose delimiters that appear as a normal part of HTML like "<" and ">" or terrible things will happen when your publish. OK, so you want to try it. OK, OK that's fine by me, just change it back real quick and don't e-mail support about your troubles.

There is one thing to note - these links are attached only when you preview or publish your site so they will not appear in the edit hyperlinks dialogue, also they will not appear in the link map.

Many thanks to Keith Martin for suggesting the utility of such an action.
