All Shook Up Information

All Shook Up’ is a suite of four different actions all based on the same effect. They all allow the user to move, or to be more accurate shake, the current browser window to a set of defined values.

Hold on to your hat and click here to see an example of this action at work.

As I hope you will have seen by the example above this effect is more fun than functional but it could be put to good effect in drawing the user's attention to your site content.

Working with the Actions

All four actions in the suite produce the same effect but allow the user to do so from different elements of the web page.

The suite contains the following actions:

  • All Shook Up - Text link
  • All Shook Up - Button
  • All Shook Up - Picture link
  • All Shook Up - Page

As you might expect, each action allows you to trigger the effect from the element mentioned in it's name.

The text link and button actions are available from the Insert > Action Item menu, the picture link action from the Item > Actions menu, and the page action from the Page >Actions menu.

Getting the window to shake with a text link

The text link version of the action is ideally placed as an inline item in a current run of HTML text. As such the action item will pick up the styling of the text around it and allow the site designer to integrate it into the design to a greater extent than if it had been placed alone.

Place the cursor where you want the action to show up in your text box and select 'All Shook Up - Text link' from the Insert >Action Item menu.

The controls for the action (located in the Actions Palette) are quite self explanatory:

Text - The text that will be displayed in the generated link.

Link - The target page for the text link.
If you don't want the user to be taken to another page after the browser window has finished shaking then simply leave this as 'None'.

Magnitude - The amount (in pixels) that the action will move the window in the direction specified.

Duration - The number of times the action will loop on the current pixel value before moving on.

Direction - The checkboxes allow the user to specify the direction the window will move in.

If all for values are selected (the default setting) the window will shake rather than move.
